Heartless criminals who saw the news that Dr. Dre was hospitalized with a brain aneurysm attempted to break into his mansion, law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

TMZ sources say four hapless burglars were on Dre’s Pacific Palisades property Wednesday around 2 a.m. Security guards spotted the four as they were casing the house.

Before they could get into the main structure, security confronted them and the men fled. Security called police, who arrived almost immediately and caught the burglars near the property.

Law enforcement believes the men saw an opportunity to rob Dre of his valuables while the mega producer was hospitalized after suffering a brain aneurysm.

The 4 suspects were charged with attempted burglary and are currently in custody.

Dre, 55, suffered an aneurysm Monday and was rushed by ambulance to the hospital where he is “resting comfortably” in ICU, his lawyer tells Billboard.

Dre, real name Andre Romelle Young, issued a statement through his publicist Tuesday night, saying, “Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes. I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!”

Dre is in the midst of a bitter divorce battle with estranged wife Nicole Young, who wants $2 million a month in temporary spousal support and $5 million for attorneys fees, but a judge refused her request for $2 million a month.
