Kirk Franklin apologized after video footage was uploaded to the internet by his son, Kerrion, who recorded a heated phone exchange between himself and his father.
Father and son are pictured during happier times in a photo dated April 30, 1999.
In the clip, Franklin, 51, is heard cursing out his 33-year-old estranged son, calling him a “b***h a**” and telling him, “I will put my foot in your a**.”
The Grammy Award-winning gospel singer also told his son his mother should have swallowed him.
Kerrion fell out with his father years ago, calling his dad “sneaky” and saying his father threatened to kill him.
Franklin and his wife of 25 years, Tammy Collins, have three other children, Kennedy, 23, Carrington, 30, and Caziah.
In a now-deleted post, Kerrion said, “This is why I’m done. No father should speak to their children like this.” He then released a part of the recording, and said the rest is “too embarrassing.”
