Kid Cudi went viral on social media after he paid tribute to late grunge rock singer Kurt Cobain by wearing a dress on SNL.
As a result of the media frenzy over Cudi’s summer frock, retail stores are stocking summer dresses for male-identified shoppers.
Cudi’s floral print dress, designed by Virgil Abloh for Off-White, features a fitted bodice and spaghetti straps.
It’s similar to the floral print house coat Cobain wore during his live performances with Nirvana. Cobain died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on April 5, 1994 in Seattle, Washington.
The trend toward menswear dresses as casual wear was popularized by gender bending celebrities such as singer Harry Styles, and rappers Young Thug and Lil Uzi Vert.
Times have changed, and men are beginning to warm up to the idea of wearing their girlfriends’ and wives’ feminine attire.
Some men even date women with similar dress and shoe sizes so they can shop for clothes together.
More men are looking forward to shopping a large selection of menswear dresses in department stores and boutiques this summer and fall.
Cudi’s spring frock will be part of a new line of feminine menswear designed by Abloh for Off-White.
