The Columbus, Ohio Police Department said the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old Black girl by a police officer was justified.

The department released police body cam video that showed an officer firing the fatal shots at Makiyah Bryant as she apparently attacked another woman with a knife.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 20, around 4:45 p.m., in the front yard of a private residence. Police arrived at the scene during an altercation between Bryant and two other women.

The video footage shows one woman fall to the ground at the officer’s feet. The officer shouts “What’s going on?” as Bryant attacked a woman wearing a pink jumpsuit and holding a small dog.

The cop spotted a knife in Bryant’s hand as he turned to pursue her. He drew his service weapon and yelled, “Get down! Get down!” before firing the fatal shots.

Bryant slumped to the ground as the woman in pink fled into the house, pursued by the small dog.

Still images from the video shows what appears to be a kitchen knife on the driveway next to Bryant.

Bryant’s mother said her daughter called 911 because she was being attacked. However, Bryant appeared to be the aggressor in the video clips.
