The homeless suspect arrested in the fatal stabbing of a Maryland graduate student is being held without bond.
Anat Kimchi, a 31-year-old doctoral candidate, was stabbed by Tony Robinson in the Loop over the weekend.
Kimchi was known for attempting to prove the justice system was “racist” against Blacks.
She was walking in the 400 block of South Wacker Drive about 4 p.m. Saturday, June 19, when a man approached and stabbed her in the back, police say.
Kimchi was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Saturday.
Robinso, 41, was taken into custody Thursday, June 24, Chicago police announced.
Police said Robinson is believed to be the same individual who struck two women with rocks on June 10 and June 13. Both women were treated for head lacerations.
Kimchi wrote a paper published in the Journal of Quantitative Criminology in 2019 attempting to prove the justice system in America was racist against “young black offenders” and black drug offenders.”
The Israeli-born grad student was working on her doctoral degree in criminology and criminal justice. Her family said she was in Chicago visiting friends when she was killed.
