Cell phone videos captured jubilant celebrations after a federal court lifted mask mandates on mass transportation.
The mask guidelines were put in place by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
A federal court in Florida lifted the CDC’s mask mandates on planes, trains and buses on Monday.

“Today’s court decision means CDC’s public transportation masking order is not in effect at this time,” an administration official said.
Travelers posted videos of flight attendants cheering as they announced face masks are no longer required on board planes.
Uber also announced face masks are optional for drivers and riders going forward.
Face masks became a flashpoint for political debate that divided the country after the CDC and Dr. Anthony Fauci recommended face masks for the general population.
Common surgical (blue) face masks are not designed to filter out virus particles smaller than 0.1 microns. Coronavirus particles range from 0.06 microns to .14 microns.
The CDC’s face mask guidelines were criticized by medical experts – including Dr. Fauci himself who flip-flopped a month after telling Americans face masks do not provide protection from Covid-19.
“Wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet. But it is not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is,” Fauci said during a 60 Minutes interview that aired in March 2020.
Fauci later backtracked, saying he only made the statement to ensure there would be enough masks for healthcare workers.
