Music producer Metro Boomin is mourning the loss of his mother Leslie Joanne Wayne. She was fatally shot by her husband, who then killed himself in a murder-suicide.

Police found Leslie’s body outside of the Atlanta area on Friday night, TMZ reported. She was killed by her husband, not Metro’s father, who then turned the gun on himself.

Fans and friends sent messages of support to the producer on social media. Fellow producer and rapper, Mike WiLL Made-It wrote: “Prayers for my brother @MetroBoomin.”

In a sit-down interview with The FADER in 2016, Metro Boomin said his mother was his biggest inspiration.

“My name is Leland Tyler Wayne. My mom wanted to give me a name where, no matter what I wanted to do, I’d be able to do it. An astronaut. President. Whatever. Leland Wayne.”

He said she drove him 17 hours from their home in St. Louis to Atlanta so he could make beats for rapper OJ Da Juiceman.

In the same interview, Leslie said the absence of Metro’s father is what caused her to strongly support his musical aspirations. “I knew that he was hurting so much, which is part of what made me support him so much in the music.”

Metro’s hip-hop career took off after he produced rapper Future’s hit single “Karate Chop” which led to more work with bold name rapper Gucci Mane and, later, Drake, Kanye West, Young Thug, Migos, 21 Savage, and more.
