RuPaul slammed U.S. Senator Ted Cruz for his recent comments about gay marriage after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade.
RuPaul, who hosted Thursday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, criticized the Republican from Texas for his anti-gay marriage statement.
Cruz commented that the U.S. Supreme Court was “clearly wrong” for legalizing same-sex marriage in 2015.
“Marriage was always an issue that was left to the states,” Cruz said. “We saw states before Obergefell… some states were moving to allow gay marriage, other states were moving to allow civil partnerships. There were different standards that the states were adopting.”
He added: “I think that decision was clearly wrong when it was decided. It was the [Supreme Court] overreaching.”
The RuPaul’s Drag Race host slammed the conservative Texas senator in 4 words.
“Chile, f— Ted Cruz,” the Emmy-winning host said during a segment titled “Gayer News,” before moving on to the next topic.
“As the basic human rights of LGBTQ+ people are being threatened once again, I want to thank our peers in the Television Academy for acknowledging the achievements of the beautiful and talented souls that work in front of and behind the cameras at RuPaul’s Drag Race,” RuPaul said in a statement earlier this month.
Other Democrats were equally outraged by Cruz’s comments. Many say Cruz and Republicans will overturn gay marriage if Republicans take the House and Senate in November.
“Ted Cruz is openly signaling that Republicans plan on going after Gay marriage next,” a Democratic congressional candidate tweeted.
