Sony Pictures released the official trailer for The Woman King, a true story about female warriors in The Kingdom of Dahomey.

The Woman King stars Academy ward winner Viola Davis as “the most exceptional female warrior to ever live.”

Davis trains the other female warriors to rise up and fight for their freedom when their African men fall short.

Critics are already calling The Woman King a “slasher film” due to the women’s weapons of choice — intricately designed ceremonial swords.

Written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, The Woman King also stars Lashana Lynch and John Boyega as King Ghezo.

Africans are insulted that Beyonce’s “My Power” is used in the trailer. They want producers to remove Beyonce and include artists who represent the African culture.

One person wrote: “Beyonce really is talented but doesn’t deserve to be the theme for a song made by a people who can very much manage to create their own.”
