According to the Associated Press, the photo is from a 2012 documentary called “Endgame: AIDS in Black America.” The image shows Johnson having his blood drawn at a doctor’s office, not donating blood.
Johnson announced he was infected with the HIV virus during a press conference in 1991. The news shocked the sports world.
The American Red Cross bans people infected with HIV from donating blood, even if the viral load is undetectable.
