Former news anchor Kari Lake won the Republican primary for Arizona governor on Thursday.

Lake was ahead by double digits in the polls leading up to the primary. But lawyer and businesswoman Karrin Taylor Robson surged ahead after election officials counted mail in ballots.

Lake came from behind to win the primary on Thursday night when Maricopa County released results from thousands of mail in ballots “dropped off” at the polls on Tuesday, according to The Associated Press.

The AP claims Republicans are unhappy that Lake won, because they are trying to move past the Donald Trump era.

Lake quit her job as a popular news anchor at Phoenix television station KSAZ-TV after 22 years. She announced her campaign for governor on June 1, 2021 and described herself as a “Trump candidate.”

Lake, who donated to Barack Obama’s campaign for president, said she would not have certified President Joe Biden’s 2020 victory.

“Arizonans who have been forgotten by the establishment just delivered a political earthquake,” Lake said in a victory statement on Thursday night.

The mom-of-2 will next face Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs in the November election for governor of Arizona.

The Associated Press and other liberal news outlets despise Lake because she is anti-establishment and an unrepentant Trump supporter.

Watch Lake diss a CNN reporter in a video that went viral earlier this year.
