Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach died Monday night after suffering a massive heart attack at his home in Starkville on Sunday.

Leach’s family confirmed his death after the hashtag #RIPMikeLeach went viral on Monday.

“We are supported and uplifted by the outpouring of love and prayers from family, friends, Mississippi State University, the hospital staff, and football fans around the world,” Leach’s family said. “Thank you for sharing in the joy of our beloved husband and father’s life.”

According to a statement released Tuesday by MSU, Leach’s organs were donated as “a final act of charity.”

Leach, who was fully vaccinated and boosted, told ESPN that he’d struggled with pneumonia during the season. He said he was feeling better and he was at practice Saturday.

Leach was in his third year as head coach at MSU. He led the no. 22 Bulldogs to an 8-4 record this season.
