R&B singer Sammie Lee Bush, Jr. spoke out after his mom was charged in the shooting death of 27-year-old Nekaybaw Collier.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Angila Baxter, 56, on Jan. 20.
Sammie, 35, took to Instagram on Monday to plead for privacy.
“In consideration of the recent news, I would first like to express my most sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Collier,” he wrote.
“I understand the severity of the allegations, but I do not have any additional information. At this time, I respectfully request privacy for not only my family, but for the family of Mrs. Collier. Thank you.”
According to The Orlando Sentinel, Baxter was randomly shooting at vehicles on Jan. 12, when a bullet struck Nekaybaw who was driving a black 2015 Mercedes on the 5200 block of N. Powers Drive in Pine Hills.
Collier lost control and crashed around 7 p.m. Deputies found Collier suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to the nearest hospital where she was pronounced dead.
According to her GoFundMe page, Collier was a loving mother-of-two girls. A $5,000 reward was offered for the capture of the shooter.
“Nekaybaw was a beautiful soul who would have given the shirt off of her back to care for the people that she loved. She was kind, caring, smart, talented, and beautiful. We are deeply mourning her loss. We are raising funds to cover the costs of memorial and funeral expenses and to provide care and mental health services for her two beautiful daughters whom she loved and cherished with all of her heart.”
The GoFundMe page raised over $10,000 for Collier’s funeral expenses.
