Legendary Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Anita Baker trended on social media for the wrong reason on Sunday.

Ms. Anita sang the national anthem prior to the start of the NFC Championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles.

Social media users trolled Ms. Anita, criticizing her for singing the national anthem in the cold and rain while they sat at home.

I thought Ms. Anita’s soulful rendition of the national anthem was fantastic. People forget that Ms. Anita sings in a low register. Not everyone can hit high notes in the “Star-Spangled Banner” like Whitney or Mariah.

No one in the stadium booed Ms. Anita on Sunday. In fact, she received a standing ovation.

The queen of the Quiet Storm is best known for her Platinum-selling second album, Rapture, which included the Grammy-winning single “Sweet Love”.

The album spawned several more hit singles, including “Caught Up in the Rapture”, “No One in the World” and “Same Ole Love (365 Days a Year)”

In September 2021, the 65-year-old songstress settled a dispute with Elektra Records over ownership of her master recordings. She credited Chance The Rapper with helping her buy her masters.
