An Atlanta club owner was gunned down outside his nightclub early Saturday, police say.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the shooting victim as Michael Gidewon, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Gidewon, 50, was gunned down outside the Republic Lounge in West Atlanta just before 7 a.m. Saturday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The club’s security said a drunk patron was kicked out of the club and returned with a gun.

The security guard said the man and Gidewon got into a fight and Gidewon was fatally shot.

Michael Gidewon (R) and his brother Alex Gidewon (L) owned and operated nightclubs in the Atlanta area for 35 years. The family moved to Atlanta from Eritrea in East Africa to escape violence. The brothers started out as parking lot valets before going into the nightclub business together.

Alex, of AG Entertainment, owned and operated the now-shuttered Vision and Compound nightclubs in midtown Atlanta.

Michael Gidewon leaves behind his wife, Selam, and four children who are in middle school and high school.
