Former Detroit Lions cornerback Stanley Wilson, Jr. died suddenly at age 40. According to TMZ, Wilson collapsed and died during intake at a mental hospital in Los Angeles County earlier this month.
Wilson was arrested on Feb. 1 for vandalism, after he allegedly broke into a Hollywood Hills home and took a bath in an outdoor fountain.
Wilson was declared incompetent to stand trial, according to prosecutors. He was transferred to Metropolitan State Hospital for a mental evaluation.
During intake at the hospital, Wilson collapsed and was unresponsive.
Wilson was a third-round draft pick by the Lions in 2005. He played two seasons with Detroit before suffering a career-ending injury in 2008.
Wilson had a history of home invasions dating back to 2016, after his playing career ended.
In 2016, a naked Wilson was shot in the abdomen during an attempted home invasion in Southwest Portland.
