Da Brat‘s life partner, Jesseca “Judy” Dupart defended choosing a white sperm donor for Brat’s IVF procedure.
Judy, a 41-year-old mother of three grown children, donated the egg for Brat’s IVF procedure.
She took to Instagram to say she and Brat didn’t have a choice because time was running out for the procedure.
“TO BE CLEAR – for all those that are not aware of the MANY things we weren’t aware of, here it is: black men make up less than 5% of the donation pool. Furthermore with genetic testing (that is SPECIFICALLY for looking into the diseases that humans carry) and inputting my stats in ALL of the cryo banks -it went from THOUSANDS to about 300 and of that only 1 was black – and he also unfortunately wasn’t a perfect match.”
She added:
“So we actually waited a few weeks to see if the pool increased – but unfortunately with the time frame we had to choose within 6-8 weeks and there was no more new black donors that fit within the perfect fit with my genetic testing. Hopefully this HEADLINE that people are running with will EDUCATE more people that there’s a HUGE gap in the sperm pool. Everyone have a great rest of your day. [pink heart emojis] [Eyes emoji].”
In an interview with The Root last week, Da Brat explained there was only one Black donor out of 300 candidates.
The 49-year-old “Funkdafied” rapper said they sorted through “a few thousand candidates” before picking a white sperm donor. She said they ruled out some men based on Judy’s genetic screening. That left them with 300 sperm donors and only one was Black.
“And [he] looked like Jiminy Cricket,” Brat said. “I was like, ‘I’m sorry but that wasn’t gonna be my choice.'”
She continued: “Because we didn’t have a lot to choose from, he definitely wasn’t Black. But I think we did a great job with picking. He’s handsome, he’s tall and I think he’s going to look beautiful with my wife’s egg.”
The revelation didn’t go over well with Brat’s fanbase who criticized her for being a self-hating colorist.
The couple revealed the unborn baby’s gender in March.
“Baby Harris – Dupart is a boy,” they captioned a video on Instagram.
