Update: Singer Paloma Faith is not a fan of Disney’s new live-action version of The Little Mermaid. The film dominated this weekend’s box office in America, raking in $118 million.

According to TMZ, Paloma took to social media to congratulate the film’s star Halle Bailey for her performance. However, Faith dragged the film’s message, saying “I don’t want my kids to think it’s ok to give up your entire voice and your powers to love man.”

Paloma added, “Wtf is this s***?! Not what I want to be teaching next gen women at all.”

In the fantasy movie, 23-year-old Halle plays Ariel, a mermaid who makes a deal with a sea witch to trade her voice for human legs so she can woo a Caucasian prince on land.

In an interview with Edition, the singer/actress defended her mermaid’s weakness for a landlocked man.

She said her new version “definitely changed that perspective of just her wanting to leave the ocean for a boy … It’s way bigger than that. It’s about herself, her purpose, her freedom, her life and what she wants.”

The Little Mermaid topped the box office in the United States — raking in $118 million over the 4-day holiday weekend.
