Lansing, Michigan police say the body of 2-year-old Wynter Cole was found in the Detroit area late Wednesday. Wynter was kidnapped early Monday by her mother’s ex-boyfriend, Rashad Trice, 26.
Wynter’s mother, Symari Cole, was stabbed by Trice in her home on Monday. Symari was treated at a local hospital and released.
Trice was captured late Monday in a stolen car, police said. There was no sign of Wynter and he refused to say where she was.
According to Fox 2 Detroit, investigators tracked the location where Trice’s phone had pinged and it led them to an alley near a home on Detroit’s east side.
Trice was arraigned Wednesday on charges including criminal sexual conduct, home invasion, unlawful imprisonment and domestic violence. He was in a wheelchair and he had noticeable facial injuries. Trice is being held in jail without bond.
“This is not the outcome we were hoping for, and our hearts go out to Wynter’s family,” FBI acting special agent in charge Devin Kowalski said at a late night press conference on Wednesday.
“Our hearts are with the family of Wynter Cole Smith,” Police Chief Sosebee said. “We saw a tremendous amount of support for this family… I promise that the family will get the justice they deserve.”
