A San Antonio Spurs bodyguard is under investigation for slapping pop star Britney Spears in the face when she asked Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama for a photo together.

The incident happened Wednesday night in Las Vegas, according to a police report obtained by TMZ.

Britney, her husband Sam Asghari, and 2 others were headed to Catch restaurant in the ARIA Hotel around 8:30 p.m. when they saw Victor surrounded by screaming fans.

According to TMZ, Britney walked over and tapped Victor on the back to ask him for a photo. That’s when Damian Smith, the Director of Team Security for the Spurs, backhanded the singer, sending her sprawling to the floor and knocking her sunglasses off her face.

Britney was helped off the floor and she went to her table with Sam and her friends.

According to TMZ, Smith went over to the table and apologized to Britney, saying, “You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans.” Britney accepted his apology, but someone filed a police report.

Per TMZ, the Las Vegas police aren’t handling the incident as a criminal matter, because cops determined Smith was not trying to hurt Britney.

Victor is a 19-year-old 7’5″ phenom from France. The Spurs selected him first overall in the 2023 NBA Draft last month. He is officially the tallest player in the NBA.

Due to the media hype, Victor has been swarmed by NBA fans everywhere he goes.

However, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith says Victor is being set up for failure in the NBA.
