He then led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a Clayton County high school parking lot.

Police say Hopkins then shot Jones multiple times in his red Camaro before firing at officers.

Police used crowd control mace to force Hopkins out of the car and he was taken into custody. Following his arrest, Hopkins told sheriff’s deputies that the victim shot herself.

Hopkins previously kidnapped Jones at gunpoint from a Lovejoy Walmart one year ago. Jones’ family said Hopkins had a restraining order against him after the first kidnapping.

Bond was denied for Hopkins during a court appearance on Tuesday in Fayetteville. He was appointed a public defender, according to Fox 5‘s Aungelique Proctor. A preliminary hearing is set for August.

A Georgia man was arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of his ex-girlfriend.

Police say Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins, 20, of Albany, kidnapped Khaliyah Jones, 19, from a Fayetteville restaurant where she worked on Sunday (July 16).

He then led police on a high-speed chase that ended when officers used a PIT maneuver that caused Hopkins to spin out in a Clayton County school parking lot.

Police say Hopkins then shot Jones multiple times in his red Camaro before firing at police officers.

According to a statement obtained by WXIA News, police heard “several shots inside the vehicle and additional shots at officers striking their vehicle multiple times with officers still inside.”

Police used a chemical irritant spray to force Hopkins out of the car before placing him under arrest. The victim was pronounced dead in the car.

According to WAGA-TV, Hopkins had been arrested a year earlier for kidnapping Jones.

In the previous incident, Hopkins was accused of “dragging a female out of the vehicle at gunpoint” at a Walmart parking lot and “forcing her into his vehicle before fleeing the scene.” He allegedly called family members and “expressed his rage over the relationship ending and threatened to shoot and kill Ms. Jones if police attempted to pull him over.”

Fayetteville police say Hopkins faced kidnapping and assault charges stemming from the previous incident.
