Life coach and inspirational speaker Iyanla Vanzant is mourning the loss of her youngest daughter, Nisa Vanzant.
Nisa’s death was announced in a post on Vanzant’s Instagram page on Sunday, July 30.
“It is with great sorrow that we announce the transition of Nisa Vanzant the youngest daughter of our Beloved Iyanla Vanzant. We are asking for your prayers. Please respect the privacy of her and her family at this time. Thank you.”
No cause of death was given.
Nisa’s death comes 20 years after Vanzant’s eldest daughter Gemmia lost her battle with colon cancer at age 30.
In a 2014 edition of Super Soul Sunday, Vanzant told Oprah Winfrey she was in despair and suicidal when she found her eldest daughter’s journal.
“I was really ready to leave out of here,” Vanzant said. “I have had so much pain in my life, I didn’t think I could sustain another hour.”
Vanzant, 69, began her career as a public defender, which led to a radio-hosting gig. She rose to fame after appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
“Ms. Winfrey asked me back again and again and again,” Vanzant said in her Top 10 Rules for Success Volume 2.
Those appearances led to her own talk show “Iyanla: Fix My Life,” which ran from 2012 to 2021 on Oprah’s OWN Network.
Vanzant also has a son named Damon, 53.
