Police in Dallas, Texas arrested man who posed as a maintenance worker to break into an apartment over the weekend.
30-year-old Aaron Contreras was arrested on Monday, CBS News reports. He is one of two men who posed as maintenance workers at the Oak Cliff apartment complex Saturday evening.
Contreras is facing aggravated assault, deadly conduct and attempted burglary of a habitation charges. His accomplice (wearing mask) is still at large.
Ethan Rodriguez was inside the apartment when Contreras and his accomplice showed up at the front door.
Speaking through the Ring doorbell camera, Contreras told Rodriguez that he was there to change the AC filters. But Rodriguez told him no one was at home.
The two suspects left but they returned a few minutes later and tried to break the door down. The video footage shows Contreras armed with a pistol.
Rodriguez surprised the two thugs by shooting through the closed door with his Glock handgun. Contreras returned fire and both suspects fled down the stairs unharmed.
Rodriguez told ABC News local affiliate ABC 8 that he “let off 13 shots” through the front door.
After the Ring footage went viral on social media, many viewers recognized Contreras who wasn’t wearing a mask. He was tracked down by police and arrested.
Rodriguez asked ABC 8 viewers to donate to a GoFundMe page so he and his girlfriend can move to a safer location.
“We’re wondering if anybody can help us out. We’re literally struggling in this bad time,” he said.
