“It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS,” the family said in the statement. “Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request.”

“We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours.

“At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan.”

The statement was signed, “His Loving Family.”

Randall, a model-turned-photographer, was diagnosed in 2020 with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He is pictured with Bullock and her children on June 7, 2019.

ALS is a degenerative disease that slowly attacks nerve cells in the brain, leaving patients completely immobile and unable to talk or swallow.

Bullock, 59, first met Randall when she hired him to photograph her son Louis’s birthday in January 2015. They started dating a few months later.

During an appearance on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk, Bullock said she confided in Randall that she was in the process of adopting her daughter Laila.

Bullock’s son Louis Bardo is 13, and her daughter Laila is 11.

“I had Louis first. Then when I met [Randall], we hadn’t been together that long and I said, ‘Remember that NDA you signed when you photographed my son? You know that still holds … because I’m bringing home a child when I come back from Toronto.'”

Bullock recalled that Randall was both “happy” and “scared” after she told him that she was adopting a second child. She said Randall was “very patient. A saint. He has evolved on a level that is not human.”

“I found the love of my life. We share two beautiful children — three children, [Randall has a daughter]. It’s the best thing ever,” Bullock said.
