A mass shooting suspect who killed 18 people in Lewiston, Maine was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police confirmed.
The gunman was found dead by a dumpster near a recycling plant in Lisbon Falls, Maine on Friday, Oct. 27, at 7:45 p.m.
Hundreds of state and local police and FBI agents were involved in the search for the suspect since the shooting spree on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
The suspect, from Bowdoin, Maine, was a 40-year-old U.S. Army reservist and firearms trainer stationed in Saco, Maine.
The gunman told his commanding officer he heard voices in his head and threatened to shoot up the National Guard base in Saco. He was committed to a mental hospital for 2 weeks in the summer.

The shooting occurred at two locations: Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant and a bowling alley in Lewiston. A children’s party was being held at the bowling alley.
Residents of Lewiston and Auburn were ordered to shelter in place while the manhunt for the suspect was ongoing.
“Our community can now breathe a sigh of relief,” Lewiston Police Department David St. Pierre said at a news conference.
MSNBC reports there were 29 homicides in Maine in 2022.
