Jada Pinkett Smith walked back a previous statement that she and husband Will Smith have been separated for 7 years. Now she insists the infamous Oscar slap made them recommit to working on their marriage.
In an exclusive interview with The Today Show‘s Hoda Kotb last week, Jada shocked fans when she revealed she and Will had separated in 2016 and have been living apart ever since.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Will and Jada’s kids, Willow and Jaden, said they feel bad for their father and “wish some of their family’s private matters remained private.”
But in an interview with Stephen Colbert on Monday night, Jada, 52, said she and Will, 55, are “life partners”. “He’s my dude. He’s my right hand.”
Stephen held up Jada’s new memoir, titled Worthy, and asked her if she was surprised the book was getting so much attention.
“I knew it was going to get some attention,” she laughed.
“I am surprised it is getting as much attention as it is, but you know I think it all has a lot to do with that there’s not a lot of programing on TV,” she giggled.
“People are very interested in you and your family,” Stephen said. “People were really surprised to find out that you and your former husband, still husband or former husband?”
“That’s still my man,” Jada confirmed. “I just call us life partners, but he’s my dude. He’s my right hand.”
Worthy is available in stores and online today (Oct. 17).
