R&B singer Monica wonders why the music industry hasn’t honored her with any awards. Fans say it’s because Monica turned her back on the music industry to become a full-time Instagram model.
The mom-of-three was a guest on the Shop UNINTERRRUPTED Live final tour stop in Atlanta with Migos rapper Quavo and retired NBA star Lou Williams.
Mo’ discussed her impact on the music industry since she was a teenager. But she has no hardware to show for it.
“For all the records I’ve broken, I really have never won any awards,” she said. “I’m really the most forgotten, if you think about it. I’m pretty much the underdog, but I sit very comfortably in it.”
She continued: “I was hosting the Soul Train Awards. Was nominated for 5 [awards], three of my songs in one category and still lost!”
Despite the lack of recognition by the industry, Monica says her greatest accomplishment in life is being a mother to her children. She has two sons, Rodney and Romelo, and a daughter, Laiyah.
“I may not get all the deals. I may not be at every awards show. I may not be present in every room, but I’m present in my kids life,” she said. “That’s one place I don’t want to be replaced, I can’t be replaced. I’m not interested in someone else doing it for me. I want to be there.”
