Tiktok food critic Keith Lee is considering postponing food tours after getting death threats from Black restaurant owners in Atlanta.
Lee angered Black restaurant owners in Atlanta after he gave their eateries poor reviews.
“What else do you want from me?” Lee said on Wednesday after reminding his followers that the restaurant owners invited him to their establishments.
“Again, I can’t win for losing. I understand, everybody’s gonna have an opinion on the situation. You can disagree with me. You cannot like what I say — completely understand. I’m OK with that. But when my safety and my family’s safeties are coming into play, that’s where I draw the line at.”
Lee repeated his assertion that he was asked to give his opinion on Atlanta’s restaurant scene, “‘Cause you telling me my opinion only matter if it’s positive? ‘Cause if it’s positive, you got my face plastered on the wall and you saying ‘Keith Lee been here,” he said in a video voiceover.
Lee (pictured with his wife Ronni Lee) went on to say the positivity in Atlanta was overshadowed by the negative.
Lee said he and his family might postpone his food tours in other cities if they are going to be like Atlanta.
“Every review not gonna be the best. I’ma be a hundred percent honest. If you want me to come, please understand, I will be honest.”
In a follow-up video on Thursday, Lee performed a 1-year anniversary mental health check, He said his life changed drastically when he first went viral in November 2022.
Lee’s controversial visit to Atlanta last week was the first time many of us had ever heard of him. He now has over 14.5 million followers on TikTok.
Some people aren’t mentally prepared for the drama that comes with fame and notoriety.
The best advice I can give to Mr. Lee is this: get to know your local police on a first-name basis. They will protect you if push comes to shove.
The police take threats to public figures very seriously.
