The fairy tale romance between NFL legend Deion Sanders and businesswoman Tracey Edmonds has ended after 11 years. They were together for so long that fans assumed they were married.
Tracey and Deion, both 56, announced their breakup in a social media post over the weekend:
“To everyone who has been there for us, supported us, and shows us love…
We have mutually decided that it is best for us to move forward in life AS FRIENDS and have made this decision with love in our hearts, respect for each other, and appreciation for the time we’ve shared together. Please keep us in your prayers as we go through this transition. Thank you for being there for us ALL THESE YEARS! We love you and appreciate you SO MUCH!
[praying hands, heart emoji]Tracey and Deion.”
After the news broke on Sunday, one sports reporter assumed Tracey had abandoned Deion after his abysmal first season as Colorado head coach.
In addition to Tracey, three blue chip high school recruits and a 4th year linebacker also slammed the door on Deion recently.
Tracey didn’t indicate the reason behind the surprise breakup.
She was married to singer/songwriter Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds from 1992-2005 and they share two grown sons.
She also dated actor/comedian Eddie Murphy.
Tracey is a well-respected producer who serves as CEO and President of Edmonds Entertainment. She currently produces the TV drama “Games People Play” on BET.
Her film and TV projects over the years include the movie Soul Food (1997), the TV series Soul Food (2000-2004), Jumping the Broom (2011), Deion’s Family Playbook (2014-2015) and BET’s “College Hill” reality TV series.
Sometime after Deion’s bitter divorce from Pilar Sanders, he called your auntie to say Tracey wanted to express her appreciation of my coverage. Apparently, other Black bloggers were brutal in their coverage of his divorce.
Tracey was gracious and kind in that phone call. After speaking with both of them, I was convinced they would stay together forever.
