Paris Hilton was born into old money as an heiress to the Hilton Hotel fortune. An army of servants meant she didn’t have to lift a finger growing up.
So when her son Phoenix was born via surrogate in February, Paris fell into the same routine of hiring nannies to do the dirty work.
On a recent episode of Paris in Love, the mom-of-two revealed she didn’t change her son’s diaper until he was one month old.
“Should I learn how to change his diaper?” Paris asks her sister Nicky Hilton, who looked surprised.
“I said I wouldn’t do this on my birthday, but I will for you,” Paris tells her then-newborn son. “Anything for Phoenix.”
“Okay, I’m scared,” the new mom said as she set her baby down on a changing table. “You’ve never done it?” Nicky asks, to which Paris says no.
Nicky and a nanny supervised while Paris learned the finer points of changing a diaper such as locating the front and the back of the diaper.
“Motherhood [means] you’ve got to get your hands a little bit dirty,” Nicky said in a confessional. Nicky, 40, is an experienced mom of three.
Paris, 42, shares Phoenix, 10 months, and newborn daughter London with husband Carter Reum.
Paris explained why she chose to use a surrogate to carry her son.
“Surrogacy was a difficult decision to make,” she said.
“I would have loved that experience of growing the baby in your tummy and feeling the kicks and all of those exciting moments, but my life has just been so public. So even though the baby is biologically mine and Carter’s, we decided to have a surrogate carry him.”
