A Fox News host insists former President Trump’s new sneakers will be a hit with Black voters because “they love sneakers.”
Trump surprised sneakerheads when he made an unexpected stop at Sneaker Con in Philadelphia to launch his new line of sneakers on Feb. 17.
Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo raised eyebrows when he said the new sneaker line was Trump’s way of connecting with Black voters.
“It’s interesting as you see Black support eroding with Joe Biden,” he said. “This is connecting with Black America because they love sneakers.”
Arroyo said Trump’s sneakers are “a big deal, certainly in the inner city.”
“So when you have Trump roll out his sneaker line, they’re like, ‘Wait a minute, this is cool. He’s reaching them on a level that defies and is above politics. The culture always trumps politics, and Trump understands culture like no politician I’ve ever seen.”
He added: “Anybody willing to put 400 bucks down for a pair of sneakers? Yeah, I think that’s commitment and love. It’s something.”
Trump’s limited edition sneakers sold out within hours of the launch on Saturday.
Only 1,000 pairs of the gold metallic “Never Surrender High-Top Sneaker,” were available for $399 each on Trump’s online store.
A few of the sneakers ended up on eBay where they sold for thousands of dollars.
Trump launched his limited edition sneakers a day after a New York judge fined him $355 million in a civil fraud case. He plans to appeal the fine.
