Almost every TV commercial in this year’s Super Bowl featured mixed-race people or interracial couples.
The ads garnered harsh comments on Reddit.com and YouTube, as viewers demanded to know why ad agencies focus on interracial couples.
Some say TV commercials are more representative of the world we live in. Interracial marriages are on the increase in America, and advertisements reflect that reality.
But rapper Killer Mike says, when it comes to marriage, Black men should only marry Black women.
The Georgia rapper made the statements during an episode of The Breakfast Club that aired on Feb. 14.
Co-host Charlamagne asked Mike to expound on why it’s so important for Black men to have a Black woman.
Mike alluded to the late economist and academic Walter E. Williams, who made a similar argument about marrying Black women.
“Walter E. Williams said there’s only one case he agreed with in terms of segregation. He says: ‘When it comes to marriage — you should marry a Black woman.'”
Mike suggests Williams’s message is important now more than ever, as the Black population shrinks.
“Who’s going to understand me like a Black woman? Who gon’ understand my pain, my strife, my struggle? Who’s going to understand culturally how important it is for my Black children to be proud to be Black? Even when she didn’t birth these children, she’s still their mother. Nobody’s going to do that like a Black woman.”
He continued: “That’s not putting down other people, but that’s [to] say before you criticize me now, I’m going to look at your life decisions, n-gga, and if your life decisions didn’t bring you to a Black woman, then, n-gga, a lot of the sh*t you say might not be [credible].”
“I love Black people so much, I married one of us,” Mike added.
