Lupita Nyong’o says she no longer shares her relationship status with fans on social media.
The Oscar-winning actress told PORTER that it’s better to keep her personal life private because her feelings are involved.
Lupita, 40, said she regrets sharing her 2023 breakup with boyfriend Selema Masakela on Instagram, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
In December 2022, Lupita shared a video post with the hashtag #thisismylove. The post went viral.
“In my mind, when I shared my relationship status with the world, it was because I felt sure about it,” she says.
However, less than a year later, Lupita and Selema went their separate ways.
“There are much more important things going on in the world right now, and my thoughts are with those who are deeply suffering,” she wrote in a lengthy Instagram post. “At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust… I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.”
But Lupita bounced back by reportedly dating Jodie Turner-Smith’s ex-husband, actor Joshua Jackson.
They were spotted together in October at a Janelle Monae concert. Then they were seen shopping together at L.A.’s trendy Erewhon Market.
They haven’t been seen publicly together since then. However, Lupita refuses to confirm whether they are an item.
“Our purpose in life is to love,” she told PORTER. “And so you have to get back in it.”
