Versace held a much-anticipated sample sale in NYC, causing a near riot outside. NYPD officers shut the store down amid the frenzy.

A TikTok user uploaded video of the mayhem outside the store at 125 W. 18th St. on Wednesday. The footage shows hundreds of people waiting outside while dozens tried to force their way inside.

“Versace sale ended before it started,” one person said. “They’re going crazy.”

A Versace sample sale is a major shopping event in New York. Despite the name – sample sale – the items are still very pricey for the average New Yorker who works 9-5.

The chaos left many on Black Twitter wondering who can afford to buy such luxury items in today’s economy.

“I hope yall show up to parent/teacher conferences in the same way,” one person wrote on TikTok.

“Another person wrote, “Half of them living in the projects and on food stamps but worried about designer bathrobes.”

And a third person wrote: “Do they line up like that for job applications though?”
