An arrest warrant has been issued for NFL star Rashee Rice, 23, who is formally charged in connection with a multi-car crash last month.
The Dallas Police Department on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver.
Rice previously admitted his role in causing a 6-car crash on a Dallas highway on March 30th.
Rice faces eight felony charges. He admitted driving a Lamborghini Urus that caused a chain-reaction crash while racing a Corvette.
Police say Rice owns the Corvette that he was racing. He leased the Lamborghini for $1,749 per day. Both vehicles lost control causing a chain-reaction crash that injured four people.
Rice and five friends walked away from the scene of the high-speed crash without exchanging information or waiting for police.
Leaving the scene of an accident with injuries is a felony in the state of Texas.
Police found 10.8 grams of marijuana in the Lamborghini and a small amount of marijuana in the Corvette.
Police also found credit cards, a check for $16,500, a diamond chain and a Kansas City Chiefs playbook in the Lamborghini. The amount of weed found in both vehicles constitutes a felony in Texas, according to WFAA.
Rice could face up to 35 years in prison if convicted on all charges. The felony charges violate the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy.
“We continue to monitor developments in the matter,” chief NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said via email to a reporter.
The Chiefs have not commented on Rice’s felony charges.
