Bronny James has declared for the 2024 NBA Draft while also entering the transfer portal. Bronny, 19, made the announcement in a post on Instagram on Friday.
“I’ve had a year with some ups and downs but all added to growth for me as a man, student and athlete,” Bronny wrote.
Bronny is entering the transfer portal after just one season at USC. He played his first college game in December after suffering a cardiac arrest in July. He was diagnosed with a treatable congenital heart defect.
The 6′-4″ guard averaged less than 5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 25 games for USC. He also struggled from the three point line, shooting only 26.7 percent.
Scouts are “divided” on Bronny’s prospects in the NBA draft.
ESPN writes that Bronny “has elite defensive tools but lacks the size to defend bigger guards” and “showed flashes of being a strong playmaker but isn’t a traditional point guard.”
Rumors are swirling that the Los Angeles Lakers will pick Bronny if he doesn’t go late in the first round.
“Bronny is his own man,” said his father, Lakers superstar LeBron James. “He has some tough decisions to make. When he’s ready to make those decisions, he’ll let us all know. But as his family, we’re going to support whatever he does.”
LeBron, 39, has made it known that he intends to play for the NBA team that drafts Bronny.
