Monica says an older fan confused her for raunchy rapper Sexyy Red in the airport. The mother-of-3 wrapped up her gig as opening act for rapper Nicki Minaj.
She shared a Mother’s Day message for Nicki during the Pink Friday 2 World Tour stop in Austin, Texas. Referring to Nicki’s son, Monica said “That’s Papa Bear’s mama!”
Later, Monica shared a story about mistaken identity. She said she was at the airport when an older lady chased her down and begged for an autograph.
She said the lady told her, “Good morning Miss Sexyy Red. May I please have a picture?”
Monica was surprised by the lady’s request. She has never been confused for a ratchet rapper before. Maybe it was the red wig she wore?
“I hated to disappoint her but I said, ‘Ma’am, I love her, but I’m not Sexyy Red.'”
Mo’ added: “LMAOOO now I can’t get the song out of my head!!! She was so disappointed. LOL.”
Monica’s fans were not amused.
One fan tweeted: “WHAT? Monica is more iconic than sexyy red.”
Another person wrote, “Why are y’all out here playing with Monica. You know she ain’t no damn Sexyy Red.”
A third fan tweeted: “Mo doesn’t look like Sexyy Red.”
