A fugitive who fatally shot a 48-year-old Church’s Chicken worker in Memphis is in police custody.

A warrant was issued for Monica Williams last week. She faces a charge of first-degree murder.

Anitra West was killed following an argument with Williams in the drive-thru. The shooting happened on July 8 around 9 p.m. at the Church’s Chicken location on Park Avenue in Orange Mound.

FedEx fired Williams, 45, after police identified her as a suspect and fugitive.

Family members describe West as a shining light and a beautiful soul.

“I’m a better man because of her,” Loranzo West, her ex-husband and high school sweetheart, said. “That’s what will be missed the most, because everywhere she went, she impacted everybody.”

West said he has family who knew Williams. He believes the argument was over more than a chicken order.

“I know Anitra was too important to be killed about some food. It wasn’t about no food. It was something somebody took personal, and couldn’t let it go,” he said. “Once you get past words in Memphis, everybody knows how it turns out.”

West seemed to confirm reports that Anitra West and Williams were arguing over a man.
