Now that Vice President Kamala Harris is the presumptive Democratic nominee, Republicans are going over her policies with a fine tooth comb.

One of her proposals that jumps out is her public school policy that would pay teachers in “high-risk” schools higher salaries.

Harris made the proposal during a conversation with Jemele Hill in 2019. But after she became vice president in 2020, she dropped the proposal.

“If a Black child has a Black teacher before the end of third grade, they are 13 percent more likely to go to college,” said Harris.

“So part of what I’m prepared to put forward is our teacher pay plan that would also give higher salaries to teachers who work in high-risk communities.”

Harris’ proposal is now front and center in the public discourse. On the one hand, Black teachers should get higher salaries for working in war zone schools. Teachers want to hold Harris to her promise if she is elected president.

But on the other hand, certain people who don’t want Black children to succeed academically are calling Harris “racist”.

They claim it’s “racist” to pay teachers in minority schools more money for academic excellence.

In unrelated news, White Dudes 4 Harris was suspended on X (formerly Twitter) after raising $4 million for Harris.
