Shannen Doherty, star of “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Charmed,” lost her battle with breast cancer on Saturday.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Doherty’s longtime publicist Leslie Sloane confirmed in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE on Sunday, July 14.

“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace,” Sloane continued.

The actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. In an interview with PEOPLE in November 2023, she said her Stage 4 breast cancer had spread to her bones and she didn’t “want to die.”

“I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better,” she told PEOPLE. “I’m just not — I’m not done.”

Doherty rose to fame in 1990 as Brenda Walsh on Fox’s popular TV series “Beverly Hills, 90210.: Actor Jason Priestley played her twin brother, Brandon Walsh. Brenda, Brandon and their parents moved from Minnesota to Beverly Hills. The series focused on the culture shock of making friends with wealthy teenagers whose lives were so different.

“Beverly Hills, 90210” tackled controversial topics at the time, like rich white privilege, virginity, drug abuse, racism, and teenage pregnancy.

Doherty’s “Charmed” co-star Alyssa Milano reacted to the news of her passing on Sunday.

“It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of,” she said in a statement to TODAY.com. “She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”

Doherty also guest starred on shows such as “Little House On the Prairie,” “Highway to Heaven,” “The New Leave It to Beaver” and “21 Jump Street.”
