Houston, Texas rapper Sauce Walka (left), real name Albert Mondane, was shot and wounded in Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday. His artist, Sayso P (right), was killed in the shooting.

Walka and his artist were shopping in downtown Memphis when the incident happened. The two men live-streamed a video showing their location in Memphis moments before they were shot.

In the video they held designer bags stuffed with cash and they wore diamond chip chains around their necks.

Moments later, the men left a store, and a car pulled alongside their SUV. Multiple shots rang out striking the two rappers.

Walka is currently in stable condition at a local hospital, but his artist didn’t make it.

Walka’s fans say he didn’t “check in” when he and his artist arrived in Memphis. Checking in is considered a common courtesy extended to local gang bangers by rappers or athletes visiting unfamiliar territory.

Sometimes out-of-state visitors are required to pay the local gang for protection while in town.

Local authorities consider checking in to be a form of extortion. Multiple rappers have been killed over the years in various cities for failing to check in.

Walka, 34, is best known for a Drake diss song titled “Wack 2 Wack.” He also collaborated with various rappers such as A$AP Rocky, Bun B, Chief Keef, Migos, Slim Thug, Travis Scott, and more.
