The “Goodfellas” star, 81, added: “I don’t know what the big deal is … I love all my children.”
Airyn began hormone treatments in November of last year and came out as trans last month. At age 29, Airyn was late to start their transition journey.
“Obviously no parent is perfect, but I am grateful that both my parents agreed to keep me out of the limelight. They wanted it very private,” Airyn told Them magazine in a recent interview.
“They have told me they wanted me to have as much of a normal childhood as possible.”
“Trans women being honest and open, especially [in] public spaces like social media and getting to see them in their success,” Airyn added. “I’m like, you know what? Maybe it’s not too late for me.”

Airyn and twin brother Julian were conceived via IVF and carried by a surrogate for De Niro and his ex-girlfriend, actress Toukie Smith, 72. De Niro and Toukie dated from 1988 to 1996.
De Niro also shares daughter Drena, 53, and son Raphael, 48, with his first wife, actress Diahnne Abbott. De Niro adopted Drena, who is Diahanne’s child by another man.
He has two other children: Elliot, 27, and Helen, 13, with ex-wife, Grace Hightower.
In April 2023, De Niro welcomed his youngest child, a daughter named Gia, with his current girlfriend Tiffany Chen.
