Alt-pop singer D4vd, real name David Burke, 20, sat down with YouTuber Preston Rakovsky for an interview about love and relationships in late August (after Celeste Rivas Hernandez was already dead).
In the 11-minute interview, the homeschooled singer discussed writing “heartbreak songs” before his first relationship.
“I kind of spoke the heart break into existence,” he said. “Love shouldn’t be transactional – it’s about both people falling into it, not forcing or planning. Overthinking ruins it. True love means staying when flaws show, not chasing an idealized version of someone.”
Fans believe David is referring to his alleged 3-year relationship with Celeste that allegedly started on Roblox when the minor was only 11 years old.
David, who was 17, used Hello Kitty avatars to allegedly lure minors on Roblox, Fortnite and Instagram.
“The way I like to view love is that, we’re participating in this ceremonious matrimony together and we should kind of approach it with the journey aspect to it and be in it for the long run.”
He continued: “The planned never goes as planned. It’s like you expect, you expect, you expect and then the over expectations kind of ruins your perception of what reality is sometimes.”
At one point during the interview, David described his girlfriend’s personality changing and speaking her mind a lot more, which he considered “crazy.”
“Over the span of months and years, you kind of start to speak your mind a lot more. And by being around someone a lot more, they start to speak their mind and you know when things don’t add up right now to what they said months and months ago… If the communication is consistent through the course of a relationship, then you’re kind of locked in. But when opinions start to change and their entire personality kind of just starts to shift in front of you, it’s kind of crazy.”
He added, “I was homeschooled for the majority of when love mattered.”
Fans note David wore Celeste’s pink bracelet on his right wrist during the interview. There are photos online of Celeste wearing that same bracelet.
