NBC News White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor is pregnant with her 2nd baby at age 38. Yamiche and her husband Nate shared the news exclusively with PEOPLE.
The couple had their first child by in-vitro fertilization (IVF) in 2023 after years of struggling with infertility.
“During my last pregnancy with my son Yrie, I shared my tough journey dealing with infertility and multiple rounds of IVF over several years through the Today show,” Yamiche said. “Earlier this year, Nate and I decided we wanted to try for another child and started doing the preliminary testing to undergo another round of IVF.”
Before deciding to undergo the rigorous IVF procedure, Yamiche and Nate went on a trip to Jamaica.
“Well, on the morning of our flight to Jamaica, I was feeling really exhausted and nauseous and decided to take a pregnancy test,” she said. “I screamed — literally screamed — when the words ‘pregnant’ popped up on the screen of the test.”
Yamiche continued: “I have never been pregnant naturally, and honestly never thought it could happen for me after so many years of trying to conceive before my son. My husband, Nate, eventually came running into the bathroom and looked like a deer in headlights when I showed him the positive pregnancy test.”
After returning from their vacation, Yamiche was shocked to learn she was three months pregnant.
“My entire first trimester had gone by without me noticing!” she said. “We were beyond shocked and also overjoyed.”
Yamiche was named a White House correspondent in 2018. She has frequently clashed with President Trump. The Washington Post reported Trump has repeatedly insulted her at the White House.
Yamiche and Nate, 35, tied the knot in 2018. He is now an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Curricular Affairs at the University of Redlands, specializing in economics. He also contributes to various academic publications.
