Angela Bassett and her twins Bronwyn and Slater celebrated Courtney B. Vance’s new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, December 16.
Angela said Courtney’s star was “well deserved.” She told her husband, “I love you, and I’m grateful that the world now has a star that bears your name.”

“I have to live with this man,” Angela joked during her speech about Courtney. She said “It’s wonderful” to have his star directly across the street from her own Walk of Fame star (which she received in 2008).

“As an actor, Courtney is committed, relatable and deeply reliable. He shows up fully every time, onstage, on-screen, and on television, drowning each performance in emotional truth and the human complexity,” Angela said.

Angela recalled memories of Courtney’s first acting role, his Tony Award-winning part in Broadway’s “Lucky Guy” and his on-screen roles in “Lovecraft Country” and “The Hunt for Red October.”

“Today’s honor is deeply deserved. This star recognizes not only his artistry, but his integrity, his generosity and his grace with which he moves through the world,” Angela said.

Invited guests included (L-R) Jessica Betts, Niecy Nash-Betts and Jurnee Smollett.
Angela and Courtney have been married since 1997. They first met at Yale School of Drama. Their paths crossed again a decade later and they began dating. Courtney played Angela’s television husband on “ER.”
They welcomed twins Bronwyn and Slater via a surrogate in January 2006.
