New Edition is catching heat for lip-syncing their holiday performance at NBC’s Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in New York City on Dec. 3.

The group performed three songs – including “Happy Holidays to You” – off their 1985 Christmas EP, titled Christmas All Over the World.

The guys wore red blazers with black leather pants and hats.

Social media lit up with complaints that the group lip-synced their performance.

One fan wrote on X (Twitter): “New Edition just lip sync tf out this performance at the Rockefeller center.”

Another fan wrote, “Not New Edition lip syncing this badly.”

A third fan commented: “This has to be nothing more then white commenting. New Edition has been going strong recently with multiple successful residency in LV. I guess NBC should’ve got redneck Kid Rock.”

Other fans were happy to see the ’80s R&B band performing for a crossover audience.

The star-studded event also featured performances from Halle Bailey, Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, Marc Anthony, Kristin Chenoweth, Michael Bublé, Brad Paisley, Laufey, Carly Pearce, and the Radio City Rockettes.

New Edition were formed in a housing project in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts in 1978 by singer/rapper Bobby Brown.

The other original members include Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. The group’s name means a new edition of the Jackson 5.

R&B crooner Johnny Gill joined the group when Bobby was voted out due to his wild antics and drug use.

Ronnie, Ricky and Michael later formed the Hip-Hop trio Bell Biv DeVoe.
