Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles stormed out of an interview after a reporter credited his ex-wife, Tina Knowles, with the success of Beyoncé and her girl group Destiny’s Child.
PIX11 anchor Kendis Gibson suggested that the success of Destiny’s Child “was a joint effort” between Mathew and Tina Knowles.
“What work did she do?” asked Mathew, who developed and managed Destiny’s Child.
Gibson said Tina styled the girls’ hair and that the group’s success was a joint effort.
“We’ll stop now,” said Mathew, as he stood up.
“Did I say something wrong?” Gibson asked him. Mathew assured Gibson that he did not, before walking out.

Destiny’s Child formed in Houston, Texas, in the late 1990s when Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, Beyoncé, and LeToya Luckett were still in high school.
Mathew reacted to a report on Page Six that Gibson arrived late to their interview and asked multiple questions about Tina Knowles.
Mathew said, “the interview was supposed to be about Destiny’s Child’s tribute concert.”
In February, he announced the Destiny’s Child Reimagined Tribute tour, featuring orchestral covers of classic Destiny’s Child songs.
“How it starts is how it ends. It started on a bad note, and obviously ended on a bad note for [Gibson],” Mathew continued. “I politely ended the interview, shook his hand, and took a photograph.”
Mathew and Miss Tina were married for 31 years and share Beyoncé and Solange Knowles. They divorced in 2011 after it was reported that he spawned several out-of-wedlock children.

Beyoncé addressed her parents’ divorce in her 2014 song “Ring Off,” which includes lyrics such as, “Mama, I understand your many sleepless nights / When you sit and you think about Father. / Or how you tried to be the perfect wife,” and “You found a new man now you shine and you’re fine. / Like it’s my time, you took that ring off.”
In a 2025 interview, Miss Tina told Gayle King that she and Mathew “are on good terms because we did a good job” raising their daughters.
Despite Mathew’s flaws, Miss Tina said she “never questioned whether he loved me or my kids.”
