Rapper Nicki Minaj visited with ailing singer August Alsina in a New York area hospital, where he is recovering from a brain injury after a fall during a recent concert.
Alsina was moved from the intensive care to a regular hospital room where he can accept visitors who aren’t related to him.
A source close to Alsina’s camp told Sandrarose.com the 22-year-old singer suffered a closed head injury (a severe brain injury) when he fell off the stage in a drug haze at Irving Plaza a few weeks ago. Doctors reportedly placed Alsina in a medically-induced coma for 3 days to allow his brain to rest after he experienced multiple seizures.
A lack of oxygen supply to the brain (such as when the brain swells) can trigger seizures. So can marijuana, which was found in his system.
Gossip tabloid TMZ originally reported Alsina was being treated in ICU for the mythical, non-existent celebrity diagnosis “exhaustion and dehydration.”
Another source said, prior to his performance, Alsina smoked “too much Knockout” — a reference to the high grade medical marijuana that is favored by urban artists.
The source said it will be months — if not a year — before Alsina is able to perform on stage again.
