In a desperate bid to save husband Jay Z’s struggling TIDAL music streaming app, Beyonce released a new track, “Die With You,” exclusively on TIDAL.

The track with its tempting lyrics sang over lifeless piano chords was released on Saturday to coincide with Beyonce and Jay Z’s seventh wedding anniversary.

“I wake up just to sleep with you / I open my eyes so I can see it’s you / And I love so I can die with you,” she sings.

“Die With You” caused a frenzy on social media on Saturday. But it didn’t result in a tidal wave of new subscribers for the $20/month app that Jay Z and Beyonce had hoped for.

Jay Z desperately needs millions of signups to compensate his silent partners for their $54 million investment in TIDAL.

Not everyone was impressed with Beyonce’s new song.

The NY Daily News music critic writes:

As a song, ‘Die” feels like a throwaway — more gesture than anthem. As a piece of advertising, however, it effectively underscores Tidal’s mission to make its subscribers feel like they have a closer connection to its artists.

Like some audio answer to an Instagram shot, “Die” got our attention, but, in doing so, it just makes us hungry for something more substantial.

Jay Z teamed up with numerous big name stars to relaunch the TIDAL app last week. But one celebrity who wasn’t invited to participate was singer Jennifer Lopez. She had nothing nice to say about TIDAL — mainly because she’s never heard of TIDAL.

When the dust clears, TIDAL will be a huge failure and Jay Z will have only his over-inflated ego to blame.
