A middle school teacher was savagely attacked and “knocked out cold” by a parent of a 12-year-old student.
Annika McKenzie reportedly entered Alberta B. Gray Schultz Middle School in Hempsted, Long Island on Wednesday. McKenzie pushed her way past security and confronted teacher Catherine Engelhardt in a hallway.
Engelhardt called security which enraged McKenzie. She shoved Engelhardt against a wall and put her in a chokehold while McKenzie’s 14-year-old daughter and another child kicked and pummeled the helpless teacher.
The attack was captured on the school’s surveillance video.
“It’s not like I thought a parent would do something, but I knew something violent was going to happen,” Engelhardt told WABC/Channel 7 after recovering at home.
“I’ve warned them time and again that the children have no respect for adults. Yes, I fear for my safety. They can’t control the kids,” she said.
The NY Post reports that McKenzie was upset about an earlier incident in which she claimed Engelhardt grabbed her 12-year-old daughter.
McKenzie was arrested and charged with felony strangulation and assault, according to the NY Post. The 14-year-old was charged with assault as a juvenile.
